Brightside

ebook cover2

Across the nation, telepaths are rounded up and sent to the beautiful mountain town of Brightside. They’re told it’s just like everywhere else, probably even nicer. As long as they follow the rules and don’t ever think about leaving. Joe Nolan is one of the accused, a man who spent his life hearing things people left unsaid. And now he’s paying for it on his hundredth day in Brightside, fighting to keep hold of his secret in a town where no thought is safe.

25 Perfect Days

A totalitarian state doesn’t just happen overnight. It’s a slow, dangerous slide. 25 Perfect Days chronicles the path into a hellish future of food shortages, contaminated water, sweeping incarceration, an ultra-radical religion, and the extreme measures taken to reduce the population. Through twenty-five interlinked stories, each written from a different character’s point of view, 25 Perfect Days captures the sacrifice, courage, and love needed to survive and eventually overcome this dystopian nightmare. Scheduled for release July 2013.

Ain’t No Messiah

“Most my life, I’ve been saying I ain’t no Messiah. All my life, Father’s been swearing to God that I am. And now I’m here on this couch, not knowing what to think, figuring it probably don’t matter either way.” Look for it in 2013, the first in a five novel series.

Short Stories

I’ve written a bunch of them. A hundred and two last time I counted. The only problem is most of them are pretty awful. But I’ve had some I’m proud of, two dozen or so that have been published. I’ll be releasing some of these throughout the year.

Thanks, brother. Glad you dig it. I think being a father definitely makes the story hit home a little harder.

Wow. I read 5 Minutes Alone the other day and took the survey. I’m a mother to a preteen daughter and two younger boys so the story really played on my emotions. I wanted the sick bastard to suffer in the end. I had my husband read the story and we had a lengthy discussion about it. He actually had a different choice since he didn’t want to expose the boys to the criminal (something which didn’t even occur to me since I was so focused on retaliation). Will you be posting the survey results? It’ll be really interesting to see what people choose. I’m sure readers’ backgrounds and demographics will definitely have an effect on their choice. My husband is now reading Brightside- I know he won’t be disappointed.

Hey Jasmine, thanks for the message. I’ve been so caught up with everything else that I nearly forgot about this. I’m going to write a post on it tonight and put out a call for more survey submissions. I’d like to have a decent number of responses so we can take a look at the results. I think it’s an incredibly hard decision to make and my answer has changed from when I originally wrote this story seven years ago. I have a feeling that being a parent also be a huge factor in the way people respond. Hope your husband enjoys Brightside as much as you did.
      Mark
